GoDaddy has opened updated Auctions API capabilities to all Auctions members, expanding the automation available to expired-domain buyers and portfolio operators.

The company says the first phase includes downloadable expiry inventory files, exact-match search, instant purchase for eligible Closeout / Buy Now domains, and programmatic bidding for expired auctions. Bulk requests are supported for exact-match checks, instant purchase flows, and bids, letting buyers check availability, verify listing status and act on multiple domains without working through the web interface one item at a time.

For the hosting and domain market, the change matters because expired inventory is becoming more API-driven. A registrar aftermarket that used to reward manual monitoring increasingly looks like a data pipeline: inventory files feed filters and dashboards, search confirms availability and price, and purchase or bid actions can be triggered by predefined rules.

Domain Name Wire notes that the updated API can be used to bid on auctions and buy Closeouts programmatically, including scenarios where buyers automatically act when a domain reaches a target price. That is useful for investors, agencies and developers watching large lists, but it also raises the stakes for controls around maximum prices, duplicate actions, trademark screening and domain reputation checks before money moves.

GoDaddy’s own announcement also cautions that bidding involves real-money auction actions and recommends clear rules and safeguards. Site operators considering automated acquisition should treat the API like any other production purchasing workflow: limit credentials, test against small scopes, require approval for higher-value buys and log every bid or purchase decision.
